ECO-DESIGNED BOXES

OUR NEW

ECO-DESIGNED BOXES

Ferrero Rocher has embarked on a journey towards more sustainable packaging. From September 2021, we will progressively evolve our Ferrero Rocher boxes to a new eco-design, starting with our most iconic ones: the 16-piece and 30-piece compact boxes.

Our new eco-designed boxes

Our new boxes reduce plastic use and impact on the climate thanks to an innovative material and design. They are made from polypropylene (PP), a widely used and easy-to-recycle material, which maintains our boxes’ transparency and ensures the same high quality of the Ferrero Rocher our consumers know and love.

Compared to the previous boxes, the new eco-designed boxes have at least 30%1 lower carbon footprint. Additionally, when a box is recycled, it has an even lower climate impact – reaching a 70%1 lower carbon footprint versus the previous box.

1The 30% emissions reduction considers a non-recycled end-of-life scenario (worst case: incineration without energy recovery).

The 70% emissions reduction considers full recycling of the box. Findings are based on a comparative life cycle assessment of Ferrero Rocher’s packaging, conducted in 2020/Q1 2021 by a third party following the methodological Guidelines of the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) initiative.

Our new eco-designed boxes

Recycling systems are not present in all geographies and they are not equal across different cities, regions and countries. Where present, some are more established and more efficient than others. The final reduction of carbon footprint depends on the efficiency of the recycling stream and on the share of the boxes actually recycled.

The higher the recycling rate, the lower the impact on climate. This is why we need you: to help reduce our impact on the climate and save our planet’s resources, please recycle the box after enjoying your Ferrero Rocher. Please check your local municipality for how to properly dispose of the Ferrero Rocher packaging in your area.

Eco-designed boxes to

reduce our footprint and use of material

Less plastic

By switching to the new 30-piece box, Ferrero Rocher will reduce its use of plastic by 38%₁

Plastic bag

For every single 30-piece box purchased, the mass of plastic saved is equivalent to 7 plastic shopping bags₁

Co2

Compared to the previous boxes, the new eco-designed boxes have at least 50% lower carbon footprint₂

Car

In the first year of production, Ferrero Rocher will be saving the carbon footprint equivalent of 1 million km driven by a medium/compact diesel car₂

²Findings are based on a comparative life cycle assessment of Ferrero Rocher’s packaging (plastic box only), conducted in 2020/Q1 2021 by a third party following the methodological Guidelines of the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) initiative. The carbon footprint reduction considers the country average end-of-life scenario (recycling, landfill, incineration) for the new box, accordingly with the data available (landfill/incineration country specific, recycling EU average).
