Progress in Sugar Sustainability
We have been a member of Bonsucro Limited, a global non-profit organisation that exists to promote sustainable cane sugar production, processing and trade around the world since 2010. We also collaborate with Ctm Altromercato, the largest fair trade organization in Italy, promoting socially and environmentally sustainable supply chains for over 30 years. In 2020 we reached our target of sourcing 100% sustainable cane sugar through Bonsucro and Altromercato.

Knowing the source of
our Sugar
Globally and on average we purchase 75% beet sugar and 25% refined cane sugar. In Europe, we primarily source beets from European producers, whilst our cane sugar comes mainly from Brazil, India, Mexico and Australia.
Partnering for sustainable sugarcane:
Bonsucro supports a community of over 280 members in over 50 countries, including, sugar farmers, millers, traders, buyers and support organisations. We support them to build a cane sugar sector with thriving, sustainable producer communities and resilient supply-chains, creating lasting value for the people, communities, businesses, economies and eco-systems involved. In 2014, Ferrero Group was the first to receive the “Leadership Award” from Bonsucro for its active participation in the development of a sustainable cane sugar industry.

Basic Requirements and Beyond
In addition to Bonsucro, Ferrero launched the “Sustainable Development Programme”, a five-year programme from 2016-2020 implemented with Ctm Altromercato in Mauritius. The programme aims to improve and enhance the economic, environmental and social sustainability of small cane sugar producers in Mauritius, going beyond the existing commercial partnerships. The partnership is regulated by an ethical protocol, “Made in Dignity”, which is undersigned by all the project partners.
