Our Hazelnut

BEHIND OUR APPROACH

Hazelnuts are the hero ingredient of Ferrero Rocher, contributing to its distinctive taste, texture and unmistakable crunch. Our hazelnuts come from orchards in different parts of the world, primarily from Chile, Italy, Turkey and the USA, including our own farms, run by the Ferrero Hazelnut Company. Through our Hazelnut Charter, we set out our ambition to contribute to a hazelnut industry where production creates value for all.

Hazelnuts sourcing

Hazelnuts are a key ingredient in Ferrero Rocher. We only source hazelnuts from suppliers that have signed and follow our Supplier Code which specifies our standards and requirements regarding human rights and social practices, environmental protection and supplier transparency. We monitor the quality of hazelnuts from tree to harvest, and throughout transport and roasting, which takes place in our own factories.

Creating value in the hazelnut supply chain

We work with hazelnut farmers to develop and share innovative farming practices to support long term agricultural resilience. About 10,000 farmers have been trained in efficient water use and about 13,000 farmers have received training in fertilizers management, helping to build knowledge on farming practices. Through our Ferrero Hazelnut Company (HCo), we are supporting hazelnut growing by working to increase understanding and demonstrating the benefits of regenerative agriculture. About 12,000 farmers have received training on regenerative agriculture practices. This means our long-term focus is on promoting growing methods aimed at improving soil health, preserving and optimizing the use of resources, and contributing to enhanced biodiversity outcomes.

Supporting hazelnut farming communities

Ferrero works with international and national organizations, such as The International Labour Organization (ILO), and the Education Volunteers Foundation of Türkiye (Tegv), to address social challenges in the hazelnut supply chain. Our aim is to improve the resilience of farmers and communities, and to contribute to initiatives designed to improve the living and working conditions of seasonal workers. Meanwhile, through our Ferrero farming values (FFV) Production Standard and our team of 75 people, we work with more than 25,000 farmers in Türkiye to implement the agricultural and social practices defined under the programme.

Our quality approach to hazelnuts

Ensuring good quality hazelnuts to provide consumers with the unique Ferrero Rocher experience means also knowing where they come from and how they were grown. After the harvest, hazelnuts are dried and cleaned, sorted by size, cracked carefully, and then finally we make our selection. There are more than 300 hazelnut varieties in the world, and we choose only those more suitable for the heart of our Ferrero Rocher, before roasting them and combining them with our other ingredients.

Our commitment to hazelnut traceability

Tracing our hazelnuts back to their origin is key and to do so we use technologies such as Sourcemap. As of 2025 (2024 Northern Hemisphere - 2025 Southern Hemisphere harvests), 97.2% of the hazelnuts Ferrero purchased globally were traceable to farmer level.
